How to succeed on Bluesky
Fortunately, it’s not actually all that difficult for you to hack the Bluesky #algorithm for your success.

All you really have to do is follow this simple plan:
- Get on Bluesky daily
- Follow people who interest you
- Like & Reskeet posts regularly
- Vary your topics and times
- Use hashtags appropriately
- Link freely and frequently
- Tag adult content appropriately
- Unpin “Discover” and use custom feeds instead.
But, Bluesky has no algorithm

People like to say that Bluesky has no algorithm, but this is simply incorrect. The following feed on Bluesky is strictly most-recent-first; which is a very simple example of an algorithm that you can take advantage of. The platform also has many feeds each of which has its own algoroithm.

Taking Advantage of Most Recent First
Most recent first sorting of the main following feed means you must post frequently and across multiple times of day to be seen by your whole audience here. Following others and interacting is critical to new users getting seen as you need reblogs to get seen beyond your followers.

Bluesky doesn’t have an algorithm, it’s mostly “are your followers online when you’re posting ” because the lack of algorithm makes posting extremely time sensitive and followers dependent relative to other social networks.
Let Your Vibe Attract Your Tribe

The trick to Bluesky is to find the users who share your own personal passions so that you can connect over your mutual obsessions. It only takes a few friends like that to make a network worth visiting regularly.

Your vibe attracts your tribe. If you share the kind of content you want to see on this network, people will find you from it. If you follow back, soon you’ll have a feed full of #ScienceFiction🪐 memes. That was always how #SocialMedia worked, you just got lazy cuz the algorithm fed you w/o effort.
The Algorithm is the Problem
Bluesky’s default algorithms are not going going to do feed you exactly what you’re looking for but absolutely nothing is stopping you from still feeding yourself.

The discover feed here is capricious and useless, pray it never blesses you with a flood of decontextualized harassment. Fortunately you can unpin it and use “Quiet Posters” and “Popular With Friends” and be rewarded with a much richer set of suggestions that are much more useful. Or use a substitute For You feed to scratch that algorithmic itch if you want a feed that predicts what you’re likely to like and share. Which brings us to what makes this social network so different from what you’ve been on before.
Why Bluesky is Important

You may have just wanted to escape the harassment and grinding misinformation you’ve been experiencing on X, but you have happened upon a technologically advanced social media site that is designed to resist enshittification and put you in charge of your social media life.

As a California jury recently found against Facebook and Google, most social media sites are designed to manipulate you into staying by wiring up a system of variable rewards that juice up your nervous system like a slot machine. Much to its credit, Bluesky isn’t designed to rig the game in this way. Instead it’s designed to give you direct control over everything you see.

The algorithm used to control your #SocialMedia life and now you’re having a hard time without it? That’s OK Bluesky actually makes it EASY to create your own feeds with your very own custom algorithms using either the method I described at the link above or the platform’s own native vibe coding LLM Attie.

On Bluesky you’re not a slave to the algorithm anymore; and this shows in the network statistics.

Bluesky has a spike every time Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk does something stupid and then slowly declines as its users wander away due to the low addictiveness of the site. This does lead to cyclical “Bluesky is dying” discourse every time a powerful pundit gets dogpiled, but the core user base persists pretty much no matter what. We’re millenials, we have been through all of this many times.

Instead, you can actually explore freely on this network again! Since Bluesky isn’t tracking what you click on it won’t punish you with a flood of related content for clicking, liking, or resharing. Conversely, unlike other #SocialMedia you need to follow people (and quite a lot of them) to have an active feed here.

Growing With Starter Packs
The main adjustment for folks who are #LeavingFacebook or just #QuitTwitter is that you have to be proactive about following here. Bluesky isn’t going to spoon feed you, instead you have to go out and look for the things that interest you and follow the people who post on your favorite topics.

Fortunately Bluesky has a solution for new users who want to bootstrap a topical following: Starter Packs. Starter Packs let you curate a list of your favorite posters on a particular topic and share it as a group.

For example, Moving to BlueSky from Twitter, I found that I missed the #satanic community i used to have. So I started posting the memes myself and making starter packs of gay Satanists. NOW THE LEFT HAND PATH IS THRIVING HERE.

This is a prime example of how Bluesky is still the kind of social network that’s small enough and un-rigged enough that an individual user can still make a difference.
Post the Things You Wish You Could See

If you miss the things Twitter used to give you back in the day after #LeavingX the answer is not to go back to Elon Musk’s he’ll site, but to start posting the kind of content you miss from there on your new #SocialMedia to build a new community here.
The Squirrel Strategy
I used to joke that the closest thing I have to a content strategy is ADHD; and that what passed as a rotation among limited interests was really nothing more than my own distractability over time.

Then fellow user Coach Chron called me out with “Squirrel strategy fails long-term. Distraction kills consistency. Pick one lane. Hammer it daily. Focus wins markets.” which was when I finally realized just how brilliant this strategy really has been in the long term.

Consider that it’s the most consistent possible rotation among any given persons (fairly limited) set of suggestions: squirrel for me looks like pacing deliberately between self help, sales, gender issues and porn. Then consider that my product is erotic hypnosis ABOUT those things.

On the inside it’s pure ADHD, on the outside it’s posting the same dozen topics daily for years on end in a quasi-randomized order that averages out to each file (of hundreds) getting promoted a half dozen times a year in a pile of relevant posts + variable reinforcement trained audience.

Some of the most successful things have been old facebook bangers from back in the day. My bangers feed is half full of advice memes now, so it’s safe to say that mixing in SFW was a hit #SocialMedia strategy.

Yet I still find myself able to veer back into pornography on a whim at a moments notice and the audience just takes it in stride. Having to drill down into a single niche is outdated advice for a different kind of algorithm that Bluesky just doesn’t have.

All I have to do is surrender to the fact that I have the brain I’ve got and not the one I wish to have and acknowledge that posting whatever makes me happy in the moment is keeping me engaged on the platform and that is literally all that really matters long term to my success here.
I DOUBLED my Bluesky following in under a year: A Case Study

I honestly never miss Twitter at all anymore. Bluesky is an almost perfect replacement when it comes to news and porn. However, I used to run a facebook group called Your Inner Demon which became progressively more and more difficult to run as Facebook kept tightening their content restrictions

As my usage of their platform remained as ribald as it had ever been…

To the point where pretty soon I was posting this to Bluesky: So I guess this is the picture that got me #FacebookJail for the very last time as I quit the platform after posting it.

Which resulted in a rage quit of the entire platform of Facebook because it became impossible for me to manage the groups that were the last thing keeping me there.

Talk about walking out the front door. I #QuitFacebook on its 21st anniversary of being a company. I now celebrate one full year of having Bluesky as my only #SocialMedia platform and the stuff nobody was seeing on FB now goes out to 20 thousand people and gets much interaction.

When I quit I promised to hold myself accountable to post everything I used to post there and I have done a #SocialMedia inventory every 6 months since to make sure I’m posting 3-4 satanic things a day, 2-3x/day on masculinity & self help, vintage every other day & other things as I feel. SUCCESS!
Ask The Audience
Shortly after I quit I made the decision to poll my audience about whether to keep my existing bluesky purely NSFW or include the stuff I had been posting on Facebook.

A full year later and I have absolutely ZERO regrets about the results of this poll. 6 out of 13 individuals changed the course of my life that day and the result QUINTUPLED my then bsky following. Checking years later the final tally was 9/6/6, but the screenshot is the decision moment; and I held myself accountable to keep that decision for as long as I remained on Bluesky.

So 30 days after logging off of the #metaverse I’ve finally #QuitFacebook in a way that can’t easily be reversed and my account disappears forever, so I thought I’d make a thread on how it’s changed my #SocialMedia experience. 🧵
I already shared a week ago that I had succeeded in working in the requisite number of meme posts…

So, almost a month since I decided to #DeleteFacebook and I did an audit to see how good I’ve been at living up to the content strategy I promised you: Demon: Hypermale: Vintage: Facebook: 3-4/ day 3/day 0.5/day Bluesky: 3.5/day 2.8/day 0.25/day

The underlying analysis I did in Google Sheets, however shows a much more complete replacement of Facebook going on as I transferred sky photos, travel, food, sunrises and sunsets almost completely beyond the promised integration of “6 memes a day” from my Demon and Hypermale Groups.

My continuing Google analysis bears out the completeness of the transition by looking very similar to what it did and the end of the first month. Travel, food, art, and news still make up a large share of my non NSFW posts here Even a year later.
For comparison the first month of getting my jams from bluesky made a 54 song Playlist while The same exercise performed on the month of December 18 through January 18, 2026 produced 120+ songs shared in 31 days.
Furthermore, all this extra SFW posting on what used to be a porn only account had no significant negative impact on my growth curve here on Bluesky with blue.facts.dev showing me on track to make 10,000 only 4 days later than I was projected to on February 17th, 2025.

And I have remained on a similar upward trajectory all the way to my now high 22k followers

powering through doubling my follower count in under a year while the platform itself was slowly shrinking after its initial boom growth between the election and inauguration of Donald Trump

The Secret to Growing on a Shrinking Platform

I had vaguely assumed #ScreenTime would go down when I quit both Facebook and Twitter, but my #SocialMedia addiction actually got much stronger doubling from the 3 week pre-quit average and remaining there for the whole year after I quit facebook.

I put out my freak flag to fly and I’ve found a social network that lets me be exactly the freak i am in a whole and integrated way, and I am thriving a year after the Exodus because I made a clear commitment to my audience when I said

” this used to be a pure porn account until Facebook pissed me off and I made Bluesky my only social media. Nowadays you’ll find a mix of memes, porn, politics, travel and music mixed in among the devil worship and enby stuff. I post a spiral every day and a song every day.”

A lot of people are afraid that if they #QuitTwitter and #LeaveFacebook they’ll never get those followers back, meanwhile I am blasting through my follower goals here just posting what I used to post there.

Follower Restoration INITIAL GOAL ACHEIVED: [🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦] 100% 11,000 Bluesky followers to equal the old @VastHypno.x.com account on Twitter at its largest; making me the 10,000th most popular account on a site with 35.5 mil users. New Goal: 16,666 users = top combined Facebook + Twitter follows. All the way up to my most recent milestone of doubling that last week…

In Conclusion
I honestly had no regrets whatsoever about quitting facebook and twitter from that day forward. As I said at the time “Oh totally. Facebook is an eldritch horror of a social network, their algorithm was rigged for angry reacts for years and it’s caused the users to become trained to engage in very nasty ways. #SocialMedia as #ShadowWork“

I stand by my assessment that BlueSky doesn’t feel like an algorithm designed by a cosmic horror to make you encounter your shadow. In fact, the “everything old is new again” nature of moving to a brand new social network led me to recycle a great many banger memes

Generally speaking I’d say my Shitposting has transcended the level of either the original Twitter VastHypno or my Facebook at its peak here on BlueSky. I successfully transplanted the meme culture I was missing by having saved it to my hard drive and now I’m thriving.

I dunno what the “bluesky is anti sex” people are on about. This is the only site in the world where you can be a full on porn blog and full on political at the same time and nobody thinks twice about it.

I did the utterly insane act of moving all my SFW social media to my porn blog last February and my account grew from 5k to 20k. Somehow eleven thousand accounts that never post porn follow me here now. 🤷♂️

So I believe that Bluesky is completely capable of replacing any kind of #SocialMedia whether you’ve #QuitTwitter and need to restart a porn blog without penalty or you’re just looking for a place to post about sports and politics.

We already have a thriving liberal politics community; football, baseball, and wrestling are all well represented among our users. There’s a strong WitchSky witchcraft community and the network is still open enough to allow for many new communities to form.

Help keep Bluesky a thriving community by posting the sort of content that you want to see there. Follow the Squirrel strategy by posting the topics that matter to you whenever the mood strikes you and Let your vibe attract your tribe so that you grow a relevant following that actually interacts. Ask the Audience what they want and hold yourself accountable to deliver it, and you’ll succeed on Bluesky.
