NEW JERSEY'S most famous bodybuilding pair-Bob Hover (left above) and Buddy Basil-have inspired many a Garden State youth to improve his physique. Bob is 22, a 6-footer and weighs 178. From success as a medel in New York, Bob advanced to television, then was discovered by Hollywood where he is now under contract to Warner Brothers. Buddy is 19, 5-7, weighs 175 and has a 46" chest and 16" arms. He attends college. The excellent Front Cover photos and the one above by TOGOF of New York.

THE "BUDDY SYSTEM" Adds Fun to Your Workouts!
F OR A CHANGE of pace in your workouts or when you find yourself away from your Cables or weights, try the "Buddy System" method of exercise. All you do is get yourself a partner and have him give you resistance in certain movements.
The "Buddy System" won't take the place of your steel Cables or your barbells entirely, but it's a
mighty handy way to take a work- out when nothing better is avail- able. Besides, it's plenty of fun!
Bob Hover and Buddy Basil demonstrate some of the exercises you can do when you "grab-a-part- ner." Here they are:
LEG EXTENSIONS: Sit on bench or ledge with legs hanging over as shown in Photo #1. Partner then grasps feet and you extend your legs straight out against his downward pressure. This movement builds the quadriceps or front thigh muscles.
DONKEY STYLE TOE RAISE: With toes on
a block of wood or some other raised edge, place hands on bench and have partner straddle your hips, as shown in Photo #2. Then rise on toes as high as you can. This exercise will develop even the most stubborn calf muscles.
SIT-UP: Lie flat on your back and have partner hold your feet down as shown in Photo #3. Now, keeping legs straight and placing hands behind head, come up and touch thighs with elbows. Doing sit-ups with the aid of a partner enables you to perform extra reps. It'll give you a clean-cut "washboard" stomach, too.
BENCH TRICEPS CURL: This is one of the greatest triceps-builders ever conceived. Lie on bench and press weight overhead. Partner now straddles your stomach and places his hands on your elbows, as shown in Photo #4. Then, with palms front, you lower weight to just above forehead, keeping upper arms vertically rigid. Partner's light pressure keeps your upper arms from bending and losing the full benefit of the exercise.
